Smoking may be one of the hardest things to quit because it is so addictive. Many people quit but then pick up their old habits again. Smoking is a security factor for them, and they do not want to lose their security. However, this very unhealthy habit can damage you lungs and health, so it is important to quit smoking forever. There are ways to help you quit and avoid smoking forever. Below are a few tips on ways to stop smoking.

  • Use patches or medications

  • Some people quit smoking cigarettes cold turkey, but this can be very hard and they could resort back to smoking. If it helps, gradually quit. This means that if you started on two packs a day, slowly reduce your intake until you can get down to one pack a day. Continue this process until you have no more cigarettes left to smoke. There are also nicotine patches that help reduce the urge to quit smoking. If these do not work well for you, contact your doctor to find out about medications and other ways to quit smoking forever.
  • Find a hobby

  • Pick up a new hobby, like sewing, painting, motorcycling, biking or exercise. Exercise is a great way to relieve stress and keep the body healthy and strong against diseases. Many smokers are afraid of gaining weight after smoking, so by going to a gym, they are fighting that fear and turning their life around for the better. You can avoid smoking by being in an atmosphere that promotes healthy living.
  • Carry products with you

  • You can also avoid smoking cigarettes by carrying chewing gum, carrots, candy or other things that keep your mouth busy. Some people play with straws in their mouth to avoid smoking. However, be careful not to substitute food for smoking because then you are replacing a bad habit with another one.
  • Change your routine

  • Avoid smoking by not going to the same store you buy your cigarettes from. By changing your route, you are on your way to changing your life. If you would normally smoke during a lunch break outside, go have lunch in the break room instead or go for a walk around the block. If you need to have something in your mouth, have some gum or a small snack with you to keep from smoking.
  • Get family support

  • You can quit smoking cigarettes through family support. If you have a family that smokes, then you can all quit together and enjoy the benefits of good health together. Instead of sitting around smoking together, you can all play cards, go to the park, go out to eat or see a movie. It can be motivating and uplifting and help you to quit smoking cigarettes forever.
  • Reward yourself

  • When you are doing a good job of not smoking, use the money you would normally spend on cigarettes and buy yourself something nice. By rewarding yourself, you realize that you have combated a very difficult battle and won.
