Let's face it. We're not Superman. We cannot do many things at a time, much more be at the same place at the same time. We are only humans that have limitations. We get exhausted and stressed out.
In today's modern world, stress is a common term to many people. Whether it is stress at home, at work, with colleagues, or simply with what to wear tomorrow, stress is gripping the nation today, it is almost pandemic. But if we have to suffer from these stressing situations today, just think of what our forefathers have to deal with.
Background search shows that our forefathers have to deal with poor sanitation, incurable diseases, and vicious attacks on their personality way graver than what we have to experience today. They don't have the comfort we have today. Looking at their gruesome condition will make you shudder right down to your Jimmy Choo shoes.
The fact is we modern humans don't have to suffer and experience the same stress that our ancient forefathers faced. Our stress is more psychological in nature brought about by our modern living. It is more about our self-esteem and self worth than physical discomfort. Among the common causes of stress today are deadlines, arguments, and bills. All these are a lot worse than facing physical threat as our body is constantly in an overdrive mode, which when experienced for a long time may result in heart disease, chronic pain and other health conditions.
So, how do you deal with stress?
Look at the bright side. Don't be a pessimist. Stop dwelling on the bad things. It's time you learn to look at the bright side of life. Focus on the good things to avoid draining your energy on things that'll only stress you.
Set realistic goals. Do not aim for things you are not sure you could reach. If you don't want to get frustrated in the end, aim for small things at first and gradually increase your goal as you realize each set of goal.
Say no. You don't have to commit to a lot of tasks. When you think you cannot longer commit to certain jobs, decline it gracefully. Remember, you are not Superman.
Don't multi task. Don't be pressured by joining in the modern multitasking bandwagon. Keep in mind that you cannot always do multiple things at a time. Multitasking may cut back working time, but it won't help produce quality results.
Laugh. It's the easiest remedy to stress. Catch a comedy film or go out with friends and share a happy afternoon with them. Laughter will surely help you overcome stress.
Remember that stressed people don't perform well in the workplace. You don't want your employment background check to reveal that you are a stress-prone person, and therefore, not suited for work. Stress may be a reality of modern living, but this doesn't mean that you simply have to live with it. Learn how to overcome it to live comfortably in today's modern lifestyle.
